Food Map for Newman’s Own Organic Tomato Basil sauce: Our modern manufactured foods contain ingredients from many different origins and production systems. This infographic was created in 2012 to illustrate a snapshot of the “food mile” story related to the production of Newman’s Own Organic Tomato Basil sauce.
We don’t often think about how each ingredient has to come from somewhere and travel many miles to reach a processing plant; and from the processing plants the ingredients then travel to the manufacturing plant that produces the end product. The emissions and externalities created by long-distance transport and excessive “food miles” is one of the major impacts associated with food production.
